Making this old fashion Christmas treat is so easy and quick. Prep and cooling time is about 30 minutes. Below are the step by step instructions for making this treat:
- Prep your cookie sheets by lining them with parchment paper
- Measure out all the ingredients,
- Separate the ingredients as follows:
- Ingredients that are cooked before making the candy topping
- 2/3 cup of popcorn
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- Cooked -Candy Topping Ingredients
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2/3 cups half and half or cream
- 1 Tbsp light corn syrup
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Added after cooked- Candy Topping Ingredients
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 6-8 drops red food coloring
- Ingredients that are cooked before making the candy topping
- Cook popcorn on stove using the non-stick pot and the manufactures instructions.
- Once popcorn is cook, place it in the large mixing bowl.
- Whip out non-stick pot.
- Place all Cooked-Candy Topping Ingredients(granulated sugar, half&half/cream, light corn syrup, salt) into the non-stick pot over medium heat. Stir continuously until candy thermometer reaches 230F/116C degrees (also know as soft ball)
- Remove non-stick pot from the stove and add After Cooking Ingredients (vanilla and Red food coloring). This step must be done very quickly.
- Pour candy mix over popcorn. Use a spatula mix the candy topping and popcorn together until all the popcorn is coated with the candy topping.
- Once the popcorn is coated pour into the cookie sheets.
- Popcorn will be ready to eat or package up in 10-15 minutes.
